C'mon Ride the Train

I'm having a lovely time tonight downloading cheesey hip hop and dance music. It reminds me of my life 10 years ago when my friend Jason and I used to drink all weekend. We'd get off work Friday morning at 10am and head straight for the bar. We would drink ourselves silly and do it all over again Saturday night.

The reason this music reminds me of that time is because, without fail, we would up at a "premier gay nightclub" late Saturday night. Yes, even in Nebraska. I remember how the dance floor would be packed and then the DJ would play Cmon Ride the Train by Quad City DJs and anybody who wasn't dancing would head for the dance floor. It's a choo choo train! I think I can, I think I can!! Hot sweaty gay guys and their fat fag hags all playing conductor.

It's even possible to look back on the Macarena fondly after 10 years. If you would have told me back then that I would someday miss being on the dance floor at a wedding doing the Macarena (after having just done the Chicken Dance), I would have called you crazy.
But, here I am.

I'm pretty sure it has less to do with the music and more to do with me getting older. I can't imagine being out until 1am 3 or 4 days in a row. I know I can't get drunk (AND high) 2 days in a row now. I think about all that energy I wasted partying, thinking that if i had it all to do over again, I might put it to better use. That sounds good in theory, but what fun is that? If I had done that, I never would have seen a 6 and a half foot tall drag queen doing lines of coke off the back of a toilet. My life is better for having seen that!! Right? Ok, maybe not, but the memory amuses me.
