I've spent an excessive amount of time in bed with the heating pad lately. Out of boredom, I've picked up a book that I never thought I would read.
Let me explain. The book is Love Smart by Dr Phil. Here is the description of the book from Dr. Phil's website:
"If you are sleeping single in a double bed or walking down the street thinking, How do I meet that guy?; if you're on your twentieth date and he's no more committed than when you first exchanged cell phone numbers; if everyone you know is getting married for the second time and you can't even get a first date; if you love the one you're with but the relationship needs some spark...then this book is for you. "
Sleeping single in a double bed? Isn't that an old country song? OMG, yes! Thank you, Google! By Barbara Mandrell.
Ok, back to the book. A friend of mine gave me this book promising that I would love it if I just gave it a chance. Right. This, coming from one of my friends who can't stay single for longer than a day.
The thing is, what I've read of the book so far seems to be more about loving yourself and not NEEDING another person in your life for validation. Ok, I believe I have that covered. (insert your favorite 'self love' joke here)
The book also discusses desperation. After taking a 20 or so question quiz, Dr Phil can tell you if you are desperate just by how many questions you answer 'Yes' to. Ignoring the fact that this is ridiculous, I took the quiz. I answered 'No' to every question except one and that was a 'Maybe'. According to the grading scale, I am not desperate. Good to know.
I'll probably finish the book just because it's an easy read. Maybe by the end of the book I'll find out that I'm not in a hurry to get married either.
